Jesus At The Center

Read Zechariah 12: 10-14
Have you heard of the “Christocentric Principle” of biblical understanding? Simply put, it means that’s everything we know about God, angels, Satan, human hopes, the whole universe is best  understood when He is at center. Recently, I discovered that one of the less familiar Old Testament books, Zechariah, is one of the most Christocentric. This book is a good example because it speaks of Christ’s humanity (6:12), His humilty (9:9), His betrayal (11:12), His deity (12:8), His crucifixion (12:10), His return (14:4), and His future reign (14:8-10). One especially meaningful passage is Zechariah 12:10, which says, “Then they will look on Me whom they pierced.” The piercing refers to Israel’s historic rejection of Jesus as Messiah resulting in His crucifixion. But this verse also predicts a future generation of Jews who will accept Him as their Messiah. At the second coming of Jesus, a remnant of Israel will recognize the crucified One and turn Him in faith.                                                                                                              The marvelous book should encourage us to look for more Christ-centered truths-both in other parts of the Bible and live in all of life. Keep Jesus in the middle of everything. Live a Christocentric life

God’s Love Through Me

Read: 1 Corinthians 13.
During a devotional session at a conference, our leader asked us to read aloud 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, and substitute the word “Jesus” for “love”. It seemed so natural to say, “Jesus suffers long and is kind; Jesus does not envy; Jesus does not parade Himself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek His own…. Jesus never fails.” Then our leader said, “Read the passage aloud and say your name instead of Jesus.” We laughed nervously at the suggestion. “I want you to begin now,” the leader said. Quietly, haltingly I said the words that felt so untrue: “Niena does not seek his own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, endures all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Niena never fails.” The exercise caused me to ask, “How am I hindering God from expressing His love through me?” Do I think that other expressions of faith are more important? Paul declared that from God’s perspective, eloquent speech, deep spiritual understanding, lavish generosity, and self-sacrifice are worthless when not accompanied by love. God longs to express His great heart of love for others through us. Will we allow him to do it?

The Express Image of His Person

Who being the brightness oh his glory,  and the express image of his person. . .
Hebrew 1:3 (KJV)

FROM THE FATHER’S HEART
My child, just as your son or daughter quizzes you daily with a thousand “whys” about life, so you have unlimited questions about Me. Some answers I whisper in your spirit or relay to you through My godly messengers. But no answer will ever contradict My personal letter to you through My inspired Word. What am I like? When you see Jesus, you’ve seen the Father. I am the express image of His person.

A GRATEFUL REPONSE
As a child, God, I often wondered what You were like. Did You have arms and legs like me? Did You run? Did You sleep? Did You pray? And yet You gave me a picture, an image of  Yourself, when You sent Jesus to the world. Through Jesus, I can know You.

SIMPLE TRUTH
God’s children love to hear the compliment “You look like your Father.”

A Promised Hope

Perhaps more than anything else human beings crave for hope. In the midst of struggles, we endure because we hope for a day that will be better. In the shadow of failure, we stand up and move forward because we hope that the lessons learned will help us in the next challenge we face. Hope makes life endurable because it keeps us looking to the future-and what we trust will be a brighter day.
This is significant because Jesus has just informed His men that they will abandon Him to His enemies- and the coming cross. Left with only that, their spiritual failure, when it occurs, could be suffocating. Their collapse could be terminal. It is important that they maintain a hope that stretches beyond the events of the next few hours. It is vital for them to see the bigger picture and the hope that inherit in it. For this reason, the Master doesn’t leave them with words of failure and despair. He adds to them words of hope. Notice: “But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee” (Mathew 26:32)
In spite of their coming desertion, Jesus gives them room for hope! All will flee, all protest Jesus’ prophecy, and eventually all do run away, but all will be reunited! Even before they fail, Christ reassures them if restoration to Him and His presence. Not only does He offer them hope of reunion, He offers them the hope of the resurrection. All this will happen, “after [He has] been raised.” The root of all hope for believers is grounded in His resurrection from the dead. This is the testimony of the Bible to us: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3. Emphasis added)
Hope is more than an optimistic perspective or a cheery outlook. Hope is vital or vibrant confidence in the power of God to give life that lasts forever- a hope that is secured and validated by the resurrection of Christ Himself, the first fruit of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15). That is what makes this so important. Jesus doesn’t tell them to shake it off or to keep their chin up or to not swear it. He instead offers them substantial and significant hope-confidence that God will bring them restoration if heart and mind when Christ is raised from the dead.
